From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Student was on long solo cross country when about 10 miles NM from Yuma AZ the engine started to run rough. He continued along until there was a loud noise from the engine and it stopped. The student landed on a road. On the way down he attempted to contact Yuma but couldn't so he alerted prescott radio (fss). The engine failure is attributed to the #4 separating from the crankcase. The cause of this failure is unknown at this time. The engine is being sent to Lycoming for further investigation.
