From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Distribution: ANE-200 9-ASO-DAL-CMO NE-01 spm NE-01 file; incident date: April 14, 2003; Boston, Logan airport; runway alpha taxiway; ASI: mario dejesus; N6701; B-757-232; s/n 30187; FSDO-01; privacy data omitted Friday 05/09/2003; delta flight 2391, B-757 after push back from gate 28 to alpha taxiway, ground crew had some difficulty disconnecting the tow bar. Pilot believed that he had received the salute to taxi because he observed that the area in front of the aircraft was clear. He called for clearance and was cleared to taxi and struck tow vehicle (tug) with nbr. 1 engine. There were no injuries involved. Unfortunately there was no communication with flight crew during the tow bar problem. Flight crew never contacted their ATC tower when they were in doubt if they had been saluted, or have someone from maintenance come give them the all clear signal.
