From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On April 25, 2003 at approximately 1630 l PDT a Cessna CE-152, registration number N197TH, registered to Ms. Kandace harvey, made an emergency landing in a field located in marysville, WA approximately two miles south of Arlington airport (kwao) located in Arlington, WA. This incident occurred while Mr. Andrew waldow (pilot) was conducting a 14 CFR 91 pleasure flight with one passenger on board. No flight plan was filed. Neither occupant of aircraft was injured. The aircraft sustained no damage as a result of the off airport landing. Pilot waldow provided the following information: prior to departing harvey (S43) on a local sight seeing flight. A normal preflight inspection was performed using the checklist supplied with the aircraft. The engine oil level was checked and indicated slightly over 5 quarts. After completing the preflight, the aircraft was started and an engine run-up was performed, all indications were normal. Pilot waldow stated that during run-up no oil temperature indication was noted, however he considered this normal, as the aircraft had not previously operated that day. After departure the pilot indicates that the oil temperature indication remained cold with oil pressure in the normal green band. At this point he decided to terminate his flight and return the aircraft to (S43). While enroute back to (S43) the engine began losing oil pressure. Based on the current situation (oil pressure loss) the pilot elected to make a precautionary landing at Arlington Municipal Airport (kwao) the airport closest to his current position. The pilot contacted kwao and requested a straight in approach to land. After making this request the pilot reports that the engine started to make noise described as "nuts & bolts in a coffee can" and lost power. The pilot further reports that although the engine was running he did not have sufficient power to maintain altitude. Judging the distance remaining to the runway at kwao and obstacles intervening, he determined that he could not make the runway. The pilot transmitted to kwao CTAF his intention to land in a field south of kwao. An emergency landing was completed without incident. FAA records show that Mr. Waldo holds a private pilot certificate with a airplane single engine land rating. The certificate was last issued on December 15 2002. Mr. Waldow holds a second class medical certificate, with the following limitation: must wear corrective lenses. Mr. Waldo has a total time of 109 hours. The airplane is a Cessna 152, serial number 15280093 manufactured in 1977. FAA records indicate that this aircraft has no previous accident/incident history. Maintenance records indicate that the aircraft underwent a 100-hour inspection on January 6, 2003 and was found airworthy. The aircraft operated 48.6 hours since the last 100-hour inspection. The total time on the aircraft is 10856. Snohomish flying service aircraft maintenance personnel moved the aircraft from marysville by trailer to (S43). The FAA made an arrangement with the aircraft owner to witness the engine tear down or receive a teardown report from an overhaul facility at the owner's option. In addition the FAA requested a report on the functionality of the oil temperature indicator and its related sending unit. This request was made verbally and confirmed by written request. As the FAA filed it

WEIGHT AND BALANCE WAS NOT A FACTOR. WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR KWAO METAR 260035Z AUTO 32009KT 10SM CLR 13/05 A2977.
