From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot, bud starnes was making his first flight on April 27, 2003. The aircraft was a quickie Q200 which he had built. The aircraft was issued an airworthiness certificate on November 14, 2002 by a local dar. Mr. Starnes conducted several hours of taxiing checks before attempting the first flight. Mr. Starnes took off from runway 9 at Henderson airport, ehr. According to eyewitnesses the aircraft obtained approximately 30 feet of altitude and began to porpoise. The pilot then attempted to land. At the first contact point the prop contacted the ground. The aircraft then took to the air again for a short distance and then contacted the ground hard. At the second contact point the pilot lost directional control and veered to the left of center line. The aircraft rolled up on the left side and then over onto the top of the aircraft and slid to a stop inverted and caught fire.
