From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot flew over rock river near lowell park, Dixon, Illinois. He emitted smoke as a "tribute" to sister of president of rock river valley skydiving club. After maneuver was performed the engine sputtered and lost power. Pilot stated he was maneuvering at 1300-1500 feet MSL (about 700-800 feet AGL). While airplane was descending, it struck an electric power wire, which was strung over the river. Subsequently the pilot ditched in the rock river and then swam to shore. He said he did not apply carburetor heat, to see if carburetor iced up.
