From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Kalitta air flight 9506 arrived at bwi airport to pick up outsized cargo. The original plans was to conduct the loading of the explosive material on the rw 28 de-ice pad. Signature decided that it would be easier and quicker to load in the regular cargo area and coordinated with the airport fire chief. After they shut down on the de-ice pad, a signature representative told them to taxi to spot F-15 in the cargo area. Upon arriving at the entrance to the cargo area, the crew requested progressive taxi instructions (as they had since the arrival at bwi because of their unfamiliarity with the airport). Ground control said that they were entering a non-movement area and could not be seen from the tower. Ground control said that they thought F-15 was off to the right. Kalitta could not raise signature on the radio, even though signature said that they had tried several times to reach kalitta. Signature's marshallers were ready at spot F-15, but they were blocked from the view of kalitta by a parked L-1011 on the adjacent spot. Parking spot are not depicted (or required) on the jeppesen charts which the crew used for guidance. No signage is required to denote F-15, but there are markings painted on the turmac. The bwi information section on kalitta's "charter alert form" stated "parking: cargo ramp next to fedex". The crew saw fedex aircraft to their left and elected to proceed toward that area. An aer lingus A-330 was offloading at pier E-3. The crew saw their company loadmaster in the cargo area and proceeded toward him. While making the turn into the area, the jet blast blew two empty LD-3 baggage carts into the A-330 causing a dent and gash to the fuselage (non-structural). Also, a signature employee was knocked off a water truck and suffered minor injuries. As a result of this incident it is recommended that an FAA administered line check be given to the captain and that the company establish procedures for taxiing into a non-movement area in coordination with their principal operations inspector. The line check for captain socia was completed successfully on June 25, 2003. Attached is a proposed change to the kalitta general operations manual concerning operations in a non-movement area. No further action is required and the incident is considered closed.

As the FAA filed it
