From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 23 may, 2003, at approximately 20:30 eastern daylight time, Mr. Joseph c. hamby, holder of private pilot certificate no. 461695712, was flying a Beechcraft BE-32, N18936, on a VFR cross country flight from columbus metro airport, columbus, Georgia (csg), to the daytona Beach international airport, daytona Beach, Florida. The flight was conducted in marginal VFR conditions enroute using VFR flight following with no VFR flight plan filed. South of st. augustine, Florida, Mr. Hamby determined that he was fuel critical and diverted to the Ormond Beach Municipal Airport, Ormond Beach, Florida. During the approach to landing, on final approach, the engine quit due to fuel exhaustion. The pilot executed a hard landing attempting to stretch the glide to make the runway. The airplane landed short of the runway. The aircraft sustained substantial damage with no injury to the pilot or passenger. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident.
