From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot stated that he taxied out and did his pre-takeoff checks with the fuel selector selected to single tank (highest fuel level tank). Just as he was taxiing onto the runway for takeoff, he repositioned the fuel selector to what he thought was the both position. It was actually in the "off" position. After lift-off at about 15 feet AGL, the engine quit. The pilot had already begun gear retraction and was unable to re-extend the landing gear prior to impact with the runway.
