From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 06/26/2003 at approx. 1230 CDT, N48693 piloted by scott greenwood departed lnc with two souls on board enroute to gky on a part 91 flight. During level cruise flight at approx. 1700 feet MSL with greenwood acting as PIC, the engine started surging and began to lose power. Mr. Greenwood stated it was apparent that power to sustain flight could not be maintained and established a glide in preparation for emergency landing. At approx. 500 feet AGL, Mr. Greenwood turned the controls over to jeff wilbourn who at that point, according to greenwood, became PIC. Mr. Wilbourn landed the airplane in a muddy field (approx. 600-700 feet MSL) without damage to the aircraft. Both greenwood and wilbourn stated they attempted to restore engine power but did not have time to conduct complete emergency procedures for a loss of power situation. Both greenwood and wilbourn stated the fuel valve was checked open, the primer was checked for in and locked, the mixture was checked for full rich, and the magnetos were checked. Both Mr. Greenwood and Mr. Wilbourn stated they did not apply carburetor heat. Mr. Greenwood stated he did not obtain a weather briefing.
