From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) At approximately 08:50 am on August 31, 2003, the pilot and only occupant of a 1949 Cessna model 170, N11576, was conducting a short field approach to a private landing site located at 286 goose rocks road, Kennebunkport, Maine, the private landing site is called "Back Acres" and has a state of Maine designator of ME46. The landing site is approximately 1400 feet in length, and the single turf runway is oriented as 02 and 20, the pilot was making an approach to 02, there are power lines and trees directly in front of this runway. The pilot stated that he landed approximately half ways down the runway, realizing that he would not be able to stop at the end of the runway and rather then continue straight ahead into a wooded area, the pilot elected to perform a sharp left turn which caused the right main landing gear to collapse under the aircraft.
