From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot hit street light post during initial ascent/takeoff and passengers observed him untangle a rope that had wrapped around the street light. One passenger stated that she hit her elbow on something but no physical injuries observed. The balloon did not appear damaged from the impact with the street light post but the balloon envelope was in an unairworthy condition from numerous holes/tears and rips in the envelope fabric. The pilot on final landing put the balloon down on an active residential construction site with several large pieces of earth moving equipment operating. The site supervisor stated that the balloon did not get permission to land and in addition almost landed on one of the large pieces of equipment while it was moving earth.
