From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft departed runway 6 at the Estherville, Iowa, airport with four occupants on board. The runway is a grass runway 2985 feet in length. The winds were out of the south at the time. Shortly after take-off, the aircraft began drifting off the runway centerline. When the pilot attempted to correct and realign the aircraft on the runway centerline, the aircraft began to settle back to the ground. The pilot elected to make an off-airport landing in a soybean field as he was unsure if he would be able to stop in the runway distance remaining. There was minor skin damage to the underside of the aircraft.
