From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) At approximately 1150, 09-15-2003, a Waco-Ato, N676K crashed during attempted take off at Grimes Airport near Maysville, Oklahoma. The pilot stated that he took off to the south on the grass strip, the aircraft attained an altitude of about 25 to 30 feet and veered to the left. He said he used right rudder but there was no response to the rudder input, then he used the ailerons to bank right but still idd not get any response so he reduced the engine power. The right wing tips of the aircraft impacted the ground and the aircraft began to tumble. The horizontal and vertical stabilizers, propeller and engine, and left wing tips impacted the ground and the right main landing gear was broke. The aircraft came to rest on the east side of the runway oriented to the northwest. The pilot said he was not injured. There was no fire. One witness stated he watched the aircraft take off and crash. He said the aircraft did not appear to be moving fast enough to take off when it lifted off and that it was wallowing along until he heard the engine power cut and saw the aircraft crash.
