From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On Saturday, September 20, 2003, a homebuilt aircraft, a starduster too, upon landing, experienced a left landing gear failure in which the structure attaching the fixed gear to the fuselage failed and the gear collapsed. The PIC kept the aircraft on the runway and was not injured and no property was damaged. The aircraft was recovered and a follow-up investigation showed that the gear structure, where the bolt holds the springleaf-type gear, had failed. The structure through which the gear was attached was not welded properly and this caused the bolt to be stretched over time which led to the failure. The PIC and owner stated that he would have a certified welder make the repairs. This incident is considered closed.

As the FAA filed it
