From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On October 8, 2003, N71027, a Piper J3 cub operated by mr. Douglas d. hatton as pilot in command, was attempting a takeoff from a farm pasture located near Florence, IN when the aircraft settled back to the surface and ran into a fence. There were no injuries to the two occupants but there was substantial damage to the aircraft. An interview with the pilot revealed that the pilot became anxious about an upcoming fence and hastened his rotation to initiate a climb. The aircraft cleared the fence and some hay bales but when the pilot attempted to climb out the aircraft settled back to the ground and ran into another fence. privacy data omitted
