From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On November 1, 2003, at 10:08 EDT, a Piper PA-28R, N55906, registered to bay air flying service., landed at Albert Whitted Airport (spg) and the nose gear retracted. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the incident. The aircraft had minor damage and there were no injuries. The pilot claims he saw all green lights on final approach. He made a squeaky touchdown and let the nose down and it kept on going down, then slid down the runway. The pilot also stated the owner told him to explain there might be something wrong because the aircraft is 30 years old. Inspector blake from the tampa FSDO went to the aircraft and had the aircraft placed on jacks and observed a retraction of the landing gear. The nose landing gear doors were removed and the landing gear was retracted and extended. Then the landing gear was retracted and the landing gear was emergency extended. The landing gear operated normally through all retractions and extensions, with the gear coming down and firmly locked each time.
