From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Notified by the NE regional operations center that 96BE a Kitfox model IV-1200 landed on long pond Freetown, MA. At 12:30 and then sank while taxiing to the beach. Ma. State police report: pilot noted that the right float was leaking after landing. Pilot put the aircraft on the step to taxi. Thirty yards from the beach power was reduced so as not to endanger people on the beach. The passenger privacy data omitted stepped out onto the float that was leaking and the a/c capsized and sank. In my telephone conversation with the pilot Mr. Daniel bartel he made the same statement. The aircraft was salvaged by the big wheel truck sales inc., 42 quanapoag rd., 706 acushnet ave. the a/c was inspected at that location. Very little if any structural damage was observed, however the finishing tape applied to the trailing edge of both horizontal stabilizers was unbonded. These tapes are adjacent to the elevator leading edges. If the tapes are not properly re bonced they could set up buffeting over the elevators. I did not see any other areas of the aircraft that appeared to have this problem.
