From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On November 7, 2003 at approximately 18:00 mountain standard time, fouga magister VI 70, registration number NX573FM, landing with the gear in the retracted position at Colorado Springs airport (cos), Colorado. After the landing the pilot shut off all electrical and tried to shutdown both engines, the left engine fuel was shut off. The right hand engine throttle/fuel shut cable was inoperative and the pilot was not able to shut the engine down. There was a post aircraft landing fire due to the damage sustained from the gear up landing. The cos airport fire department was able to spray a sufficient amount of water onto the aircraft fuselage and in the engine inlet to shut down the engine. The fire department then extinguished the rest of the aircraft that was on fire. The pilot was on a test flight after having the transponder maintenance completed, he had reported ongoing transponder problem prior to the gear up landing.
