(-23) Witness statements indicate N2094M, a Piper J3C-65, took off from runway 5L at P48 and remained in left-closed traffic in a southwest direction. N274KS, a schleicher ASK-21 glider was performing aerobatic flight in an aerobatic box, located at the airport, with a passenger to the northwest of runway 5L. These aircraft collided northwest of P48 at about 1312 local time. At the time of impact, the Piper was established on downwind at approximately 600 feet AGL. Witness statements indicated the glider was completing a cloverleaf maneuver and was nose down when the tail cone of the glider contacted the left wing of the Piper. The tail section of the glider and approximately 5-6 feet of the Piper's left wing separated. Subsequently, witnesses stated both aircraft entered uncontolled descent and each aircraft impacted the ground northwest of the airport. Occupants of both aircraft sustained fatal injuries. No causal factors are known at this time.
