From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On February 23 I went to smx, CA, and met pilot michael eugene silva. He stated that he was flying N3869S, Beechcraft, model BE-36-A36TC, s/n EA-223, dom 4-1981, on 1-25-04 from fresno at about 1500 hours IFR direct to sba. The pilot stated that he felt vibration about 75 milkes north of sba. The vibration increased. He switched fuel tanks, checked the magnetos which were ok. There was no change in vibration. He heard a big noise in the engine. Engine oil was all over the windshield. There was a lot of smoke. The pilot shut down fuel to the engine. The engine stopped. He informed the control tower and landed at smx. The emergency vehicles were present. The fire truck personnel opened the top cowling and there was no fire in the engine area. The sole occupant was the pilot. He did not sustain any injuries. No one was injured. There was no fatality. No other aircraft or property was damaged. I looked at the aircraft on February 2004, only the engine had internal failure. In inspected the aircraft externally visually and there was no damage to it except the engine. I took photos. The owner stated that he will send engine for overhaul and they will know the cause of the failure.
