From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot departed rfd, flew to jvl and landed without incident. Departed jvl for dbq and upon landing, retractable landing gear on PA-30, N7074Y would not fully extend. Pilot decided to return to rfd where PIC was not successful in his attempted emergency gear extension. PIC flew by rfd ATCT and was advised by tower controller that the gear did not appear to be fully down. N7404Y was landed and gear collapsed on runway one at rfd. There were no injuries to the sole occupant of N7404Y and only minor damage was incurred to the aircraft.
