From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) A non-pilot and passenger departed bob lee airport Deland FL in a Cessna 150 (N2080Z) at 1025 EST on 3-17-04, and at 1026EST witnesses reported hearing the engine sputter then saw the aircraft bank right then left and dove vertically into a fernery exploding on impact. The aircraft was destroyed and the non-pilot and passenger suffered fatal injuries. An ntsb/faa on scene investigation found 1/2 ounce of water in the gasolator and the spouse of the passenger offered the investigators a plastic 10 gallon gas container used to fill the aircraft prior to flight, which had residue and odor of autogas. The spouse of the passenger also advised that the gas for the aircraft was purchased at a local auto gas station. The aircraft records do not contain an entry for an STC for using auto gas.
