From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot had purchased the aircraft on 5/08/04 and was flying home to new kent, VA 23124-2622. When he tried to land at Coeur d'Alene, ID for fuel, he experienced a landing gear failure and then smoke in the cockpit. The gear would not come down-and the aircraft landed with the gear up. No attempt was made at an emergency gear extension. The propeller (two bladed) was curled up, spinner cap was split and several screws missing. The underside of the fuselage was scratched and gouged which would take some heavy maintenance.
