From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Skydiver exited aircraft with others to complete large freefall formation with 100 jumpers. Once the formation was over all jumpers deployed their canopies. Eye witnesses stated that at approximately 500 feet the canopy that privacy data omitted was under was clipped by another jumper who was under a fully inflated canopy. The midair collision caused privacy data omitted canopy to deform with the outside trailing edges touching, it began a rapidly spinning descent. At approx. 200 feet his reserve pilot chute and canopy bag began to deploy. There was insufficient altitude for the reserve to complete its opening sequence prior to impact with the earth.
