From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Acft on VFR enroute from shafter-minter field (mit) to palomar airport (crq). On descent to crq at approximately 1900 ft. aircraft was traveling at approximately 200 knots when r/h canopy departed aircraft. Pilot slowed acft down and performed a controllibility check to ensure departing canopy did not damage any flight controls. No problems noted. Pilot requested and received immediate clearance to crq. Acft landed with no further problems. Investigation revealed that the departing canopy did not cause any structural damage to the rest of the aircraft. It appears canopy departed acft because the right hand (passenger side) canopy latch was out of adjustment.

As the FAA filed it
