From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot terry d. haven was spraying crops approximately seven miles NE of the Britton, SD airport (btn). He finished his last spray run and was heading back to the Britton airport when the engine started missing. The pilot tried to solve the problem but the engine got worse. At approximately 5 miles from the airport, the engine started backfiring and lost all power. The pilot attempted to make an emergency landing on a road but was unable due to traffic. He headed towards a grass field and landed in a soft rough area. The right landing gear dug into the ground causing a groundloop and caused the aircraft to flip over on its back causing substantial damage to the left wing, top of cabin, right wing, vertical fin, prop, and landing gear. The pilot stated he had some bruises and minor scrapes. Pilot stated 60 gals of fuel and 2 gals chem. On a/c.
