From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During cruise in vicinity of Lewistown, PA @ 5500 feet MSL, pilot experienced rough engine operation and partial loss of engine power. Pilot used abnormal checklist in attempt to recover engine power. Engine RPM decreased to 1900 RPM and stabilized and was unresponsive to pilot inputs. Pilot elected to make off airport landing in cut hay field adjacent to ort valley rd, granville township, 1 mile west of lewisville. Pilot advised ATC unable to reach nearest airport (rvl) 6NM to the northwest. During approach to field pilot experienced oil fumes in cockpit. Landing was made without incident. No injuries sustained to four (4) occupants on board. FAA inspector on scene made preliminary aircraft inspection and found engine upper crankcase area perforated between #2 and #4 cylinders, with oil residue covering cowling area. No oil quantity was indicated on dipstick. No other damage to aircraft was apparent at that time. A/c towed to adjacent private property and engine removed by local A&P mechanic and transported to columbia aircraft services, bloomsburg pa (crs:JM2R) for teardown inspection.
