What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Pilot departed gso airport at 1004 EDT, with his son as the only other occupant of the DA-20-C1 diamond "eclipse" aircraft. He was on a 14 CFR part 91 VFR flight. He executed a couple practice short field landings at the buy airport in anticipation of continuing to a short private, grass ultralight strip (#157) three miles south of the town of whittset, n.c. on highway 61. On landing at that airport, braking did not seem to slow the aircraft as expected, and when it became apparent the aircraft would not stop on the remaining runway, Mr. Lain attempted to make a right turn-off at the end, but skidded into a ditch perpendicular to the runway, alongside highway 61. The aircraft received only minor damage to the nose wheel skirt, and scratches to the leading edge and underside of the wings. Pilot scratched leg climbing out of the ditch.
