From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On July 16, 2004, at 1658 PDT, an experimental amateur-built newell RV-6A airplane, N16TN, overran the runway and impacted the perimeter fence during a precautionary landing at the Reid-Hillview (rhv) airport located in San Jose, California. The flight originated from san luis obispo, California, approximately 1.5 hours prior to the accident. The aircraft original destination was hayward, California. The pilot stated that while in cruise flight over rhv he noticed that the oil pressure gauge was reading low and continued to drop. He continued to monitor the oil temperature gauge and noticed it was indicating higher than normal temperature. He concluded that the engine either lost or was losing engine oil, therefore, he elected to declare an emergency and conduct a precautionary landing at rhv. During landing, the pilot said he landed too fast and could not stop the aircraft prior to overrunning the end of runway 31R. The aircraft impacted an airport perimeter fence and came to rest upright.
