From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Airman had just purchased this aircraft minutes before the accident. He holds a commercial pilot certificate however had not flown in the last 22 years other than his flight review and tail wheel endorsement for a total of 3.0 hours which took place less than 2 weeks prior to the accident. Airman had 3.0 hours total tailwheel and no training time in make and model before the accident. The seller flew approx 30 minutes from the left seat with buyer/accident PIC in the right seat allowing him to make 2 t/o's and 3 landings prior to the airman attempting to depart with his son for their proposed return cross-country flight to Idaho.
