From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Student pilot was on a solo cross country. The student pilot stopped at Casa Grande airport (cgz); as he was taxiing out for takeoff he received a call from UNICOM to return to the terminal and call his instructor on the telephone reference weather. The student was unfamiliar with all the taxiways at the cgz airport. The taxiway along side runway 5/23 was too narrow to turn around, the student pilot stopped and consulted his airport facility directory (afd). The afd showed a taxiway back to the ramp however the taxiway depicted is used as a road. As the aircraft taxied to the main ramp area the left wingtip struck a sign. Student pilot stopped and secured the aircraft and telephoned his base reporting the incident. No additional causal factors at this time.
