From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On October 2, 2004 aircraft N68CL, a MU-2B-40, operating as a part 91 training flight entered the Greenwood municipal (hfy) airport with the intent to land on runway 01. An IFR flight plan was filed and closed upon entering hfy traffic pattern and calling airfield in sight. While on descent, a decision was made to execute a go-around due to local traffic on runway. Landing gear were retracted on the aircraft and the pilot reentered the hfy traffic pattern for a landing. While on final approach, the aural warning alerted the pilot to the improper gear configuration. At this time the pilot thought this warning was a stall warning and continued his landing. The aircraft then proceeded to settle onto the runway causing extensive damage to the lower fuselage and right engine and propeller tips. Operations inspector mary j. ballard interviewed Mr. Katz and determined the normal takeoff sequence was disrupted by the onboard flight instructor distracting Mr. Katz on his landing checklist.
