From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 10-07-2004, 1707 PDT, a Cessna 172N (N2280E), executed a non-eventful emergency landing in the folsom lake parking lot near Granite Bay, CA. The sole occupant/pilot (patrik eriksson 533067020) was 35 minutes into a post-maintenance flight when the engine started to vibrate violently. He reduced power and the vibration only slightly decreased. He declared an emergency and selected the lake's parking lot as the initial landing site. This parking lot is very large, and there was ample room to execute a safe landing. He is very familiar with the area and did not wish to continue the flight over densely populated areas. The aircraft was disassembled and trucked from the site. A malfunctioning lifter in the engine was determined to be the cause.
