From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) "I flew this morning after a normal preflight showed no abnormalities. Fuel was 3/8 full. Oil was ok. I flew locally for about 45 minutes and took my passenger home. I returned to the airport and did my walkaround. The fuel was slightly below 3/8 full. I then flew to keene for lunch. I then flew back to 3B3. About 3 to 4 miles out the engine started to cut out but continued to run at a lower RPM. I set up a glide to runway 16R to 3B3. At first I thought I would be high but the engine shut down completely. I declared an emergency and continued towards 3B3. I then saw I couldn't make the runway. I ditched into a wooded swamp about 100FT short of the runway. I was alone and unhurt." This is word for word from the pilots statement.

As the FAA filed it
