What happened

(-23) The pilot stated that after his turn to final he found that he had misjudged his approach and was too high. He decided, rather than running off the end of the runway and hitting a fence, he elected to ground loop the glider into a grassy area, causing substantial damage to the glider.

(-23) THE PILOT STATED THAT AFTER HIS TURN TO FINAL HE FOUND THAT HE HAD MISJUDGED HIS APPROACH AND WAS TOO HIGH. HE DECIDED, RATHER THAN RUNNING OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND HITTING A FENCE, HE ELECTED TO GROUND LOOP THE GLIDER INTO A GRASSY AREA, CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE GLIDER.
