From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On approach into the Manitowish waters, (D25), airport, aircraft engine sputtered and lost power. Pilot attempted restart procedures with no success. Pilot selected a field for an emergency landing. Engine momentarily restarted as he lowered nose to gain airspeed and then quit again. Pilot indicated that fuel gauges indicated empty and that he had exhausted the fuel supply. Pilot performed a soft field landing to a marshy field. As nose gear touched down, it failed and aircraft overturned. Minimum damage to aircraft due to soft field and heavy snow cover. No injuries to pilot or passengers.
