What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) On 19 January, 2005, at approximately 10:15 CST, the pilot in command of N3175M, a homebuilt experimental aircraft, attempted takeoff prior to achieving an airspeed sufficient for flight above the aerodynamic "out of ground effect" altitude. Upon reaching an altitude greater than the "ground effect" envelope, the aircraft did not continue flight and settled back to agrass area adjacent to the runway. Upon ground contact, and during roll out, the pilot in command failed to maintain directional control, the aircraft exited the grass area encountering a drainage ditch where the front landing gear impacted an earth embankment bringing the aircraft to an abrupt stop. The aircraft sustained no apparent damage. The single occupant sustained no injuries. The weather was VFR. No flight plan was filed.
As the FAA filed it
(-23) ON 19 JANUARY, 2005, AT APPROXIMATELY 10:15 CST, THE PILOT IN COMMAND OF N3175M, A HOMEBUILT EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT, ATTEMPTED TAKEOFF PRIOR TO ACHIEVING AN AIRSPEED SUFFICIENT FOR FLIGHT ABOVE THE AERODYNAMIC "OUT OF GROUND EFFECT" ALTITUDE.
