What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Pilot made approach to west runway: when flying downwind with strong tailwind, aircraft became very slow. When turning base leg, aircraft disappeared from witnesses' sight. Power was added as indicated by very loud noise of the engine, and there was no misfiring/sputtering/backfiring. When aircraft reappeared, it was in a nose high condition and wings were rocking left and right. Aircraft climbed to approximately 200 feet. Last view of aircraft showed it in a 45 degree left bank and nose was falling through horizon. Aircraft dropped from witnesses' sight as engine sound stopped along with a loud thud.
