From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot stated that he was breaking in a new engine on N935JW. Continuing to destination would cause a minimum fuel situation, so he decided to land at French valley (F-70) for fuel. When descending through 6,000 feet engine started to run rough. He switched fuel tanks, and completed "loss of power" checklist. He regained partial power however not enough to reach the runway. Ditching procedures required him to land gear up. Landing was short of runway off of the airport perimeter. Aircraft was moved on to airport and locked in private hangar. Access to aircraft was not available to inspector for 14 days.
