From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Engine quit during idle check in run up area. Induction fire started during restart of engine. Pilot was advised by ground control that "...you had a fire under your cowling when you restarted and it appeared to be out." PIC stated that he did not inspect the aircraft for fire damage prior to continuing flight although he did conduct a second idle check which was satisfactory. Upon return, the PIC reported the incident to the operator. Operator's mechanic inspected aircraft and determined that the air filter was burned/charred and had to be replaced. Additional inspection and checking found no further damage or anomalies.
