From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Weather reported as 260 at 13 gusting to 17 knots, 10 miles visibility, light rain with a few clouds at 0500 feet and overcast at 08500 feet. Pilot was cleared for takeoff on runway 24 and takeoff roll commenced. As rotation speed was approached the pilot observed a deer crossing the runway from left to right. The pilot avoided a direct collision with the animal but the right main landing gear wheel and tire assembly contacted the head of the deer. Pilot maintained positive control of the aircraft and continued climbout. Pilot was unsure of the extent of damage and flew by the tower to help make a determination. Tower was unable to identify any damage and pilot landed the aircraft. Landing and rollout was completed with difficult but controllable directional control. Examination of the aircraft revealed the damage was limited to the right main gear wheel assembly with the "scissors" disconnected from breakage from the upper trunion. The wheel and tire pivoted outboard and contacted the gear door. No other aircraft damage evident.
