What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) During an emergency landing onto runway 3 at cho, the aircraft nose gear collapsed in the grass after attempting to turn right onto taxiway delta at approximately 13:10 local time. While enroute to swf the pilot stated that he encountered an electrical failure near cho. The pilot was unable to contact ATC and elected to make an emergency landing. The pilot reported "I flared and slowed and touched down and approximately 60 KIAS. I passed charlie taxiway and was still going too fast so I went on to delta taxiway. I was about 5 feet to the left of centerline and added right pedal to turn onto the taxiway. I started the turn and then pedal got "tight". I just added more pressure but the plane would not turn anymore. At this point I realized there was a problem and I took the pressure off of the right pedal to go between two taxi lights. I released the brakes so I could ensure I would roll off the asphalt. It looked like a very level field and I did not think there would be a problem. As I went off the hard surface, I felt a large bump and then a couple of seconds later it felt like the gear collapsed and the prop struck the ground and the engine cut off." The aircraft was moved off the runway to the general aviation ramp with the nose of the aircraft supported with aircraft tires. The owner is still coordinating for maintenance to occur but it will not occur until a serviceable engine and propeller become available. Unable to determine if mechanical irregularities exist with the aircraft steering system at this time. The new owner will advise when repairs are to be made to the aircraft so that aircraft steering and electrical system can be inspected.
As the FAA filed it
(-23) DURING AN EMERGENCY LANDING ONTO RUNWAY 3 AT CHO, THE AIRCRAFT NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED IN THE GRASS AFTER ATTEMPTING TO TURN RIGHT ONTO TAXIWAY DELTA AT APPROXIMATELY 13:10 LOCAL TIME. THE AIRCRAFT WAS MOVED OFF THE RUNWAY TO THE GENERAL AVIATION RAMP WITH THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT SUPPORTED WITH AIRCRAFT TIRES.
