From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) During the descent into ord the "pitot 3 inop" message illuminated then extinguished. During reading of the checklist the message appeared again, then went away again. Approximately 24 minutes out on the arrival, the PIC smelled a hint of smoke. The PIC declared an emergency with ord and proceeded to a straight in approach to 32L at ord. The crew shut off all overhead ice sensors, but a "lg air/gnd fail", warning light illuminated. The smoke became visible and the crew donned 02 masks and smoke goggles. They decided to slow and get the gear down in case the "lg air/gnd" message resulted in difficulty lowering the gear. The smoke was coming from the fo side vent that runs along the side window. The PIC called ord stating they were going to land mdw. At about 4 miles and 8,000 feet from mdw, the "no takeoff config" warning illuminated. After the aircraft came to a stop the fa directed all the passengers to evacuate through the main cabin door. Maintenance trouble shot the sytsem and found the wiring and relays for the pitot system in the RH relay support panel had evidence of smoke and overheat damage.

As the FAA filed it
