From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) American flight 98 received damage to the L1 door and escape slide when the aircraft began its pushback with the L1 door opened. The door was reopened after the initial closure to accommodate a late arriving passenger. The lead flight attendant did not notifiy the captain that the door was to be reopened and the aircraft began the pushback with the door open causing damage to the L1 door escape slide and container. The flight attendant manual and procedures that are currently in place were followed. The amr cmo was contacted and this item is being addressed with the company to amend the current procedure to require that any time the cabin doors are to be disarmed and reopened, that the captain be notified.
