From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 06/24/2005 at approximately 09:30 PDT, while taking off from an uncharted privately owned grass airstrip located approximately 1.2 miles north of union, Oregon, N333DD struck a hole with the left main landing gear fracturing the axel and allowing the wheel to separate from the airplane. Because the airplane had reached flying speed the pilot-in-command elected to continue the takeoff and fly to the Hermiston Municipal Airport (S22) in Hermiston Oregon and land on a paved runway where there would be less tendency for the left main landing gear leg to dig into the surface and cause the airplane to flip over. The pilot landed on the right side of runway 22 on the right main gear and the tail wheel. When the left main gear strut touched down it caused the airplane to yaw to the left approximately 45 degrees and leave the runway causing damage to the propeller, the horizontal stabilizer, the left elevator, the left wingtip and the fuselage.

As the FAA filed it
