From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft enroute omaha (oma) to mccook (mck) with flight following. Minneapolis ctr advised they lost transponder and requested PIC to switch to VFR code (1200). PIC noticed frequency lights on radios going dim and the electric fuel gauge reading low. Pilot was unable to determine remaining fuel and, using portable GPS, nearest airport was selected as Grand Island (gri). Landing gear required manual lowering due to lack of electrical system. PIC attempted to raise tower by circling and looking for a light but did not get one. PIC elected to land at gri. Aircraft landed hard and bounced into grass next to runway. No damage, no injury. Troubleshooting found the alternator field circuit breaker faulty.
