From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On July 15, 2005, the pilot in command of N2958D, initiated a solo flight for student practice and training while proceeding to a practice area east of Ernest a. Love field, Prescott, AZ. During that time the PIC practiced ground reference maneuvers and proceeded to the cottonwood airport (P52) for a full stop landing. After departing from the cottonwood airport the PIC proceeded to prc for some takeoff and landings. The PIC stated that he entered a left downwind for runway 21L and commenced his approach. When the PIC rounded out just before landing the aircraft ballooned and went back into the air. The PIC elected to commence a go-around and reenter the traffic pattern for another attempt to land. The air traffic control tower instructed the PIC to enter right traffic for runway 21R. During his second approach the PIC stated that he was high on the VASI lights during his final approach so he added a third notch of flaps to reintercept the VASI lights. The PIC stated that during round out above runway 21R, he misjudged his altitude and hit the runway hard enough to bounce back into air. At this time the PIC stated that the airspeed was low and the stall warning was on. The PIC stated that the left wing "stalled" and the aircraft rolled to the left and pitched down abruptly. The PIC stated that at this moment he elected to pitch up slightly and add power to recover and immediately lost control of the aircraft. The aircraft was substantially damaged. On 07-18-2005, at approximately 15:00, during a phone conversation, the PIC stated that no mechanical problems existed with the aircraft during the flight or at the time of the accident. The PIC gave reasonable inference that the accident was caused by his inadequate control of the aircraft. Also, the PIC stated during a phone conversation with ASI, mlc, on 07-18-2005, at approximately 15:00, that "there was no one else but himself to blame. I wish I could blame the aircraft." No additional causal factors at this time.

As the FAA filed it
