From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The aircraft departed the sac airport and flew to Sunriver, OR (S21) with two passengers. From the downwind position, 5000 feet MSL turning left base for rwy 18, gear down, flaps half, the engine failed. The PIC turned on the boost pump, adjusted the mixture and switched fuel tanks. The engine never regained power. The PIC retracted the landing gear and the aircraft hit the ground short of the airport environment. The aircraft suffered substantial damage hitting a tree with the left wing. The airport manager measured the fuel in both wings at the request of the NTSB, to discover three inches of fuel remained in both tanks. privacy data omitted
