From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) PIC stated he took off from jasper (jzp) airport headed to lake lanier. Approximately 15 minutes from jasper the engine began to run rough. PIC tried switching mags but the engine continued to lose power. PIC heard some loud clanking noise from the engine and radioed engine out may day. PIC saw a field by a construction site and landed in field (in Cumming ga). PIC made several sliding turns on the muddy field. At the top of an embankment PIC made a hard right turn that dug aircraft into the mud and tipped the aircraft onto its nose damaging the propeller, oil cooler inlet, and left wing tip. PIC did not receive any injuries. Iic inspection of aircraft it was noted that the forward left engine cylinder had broke loose from the engine. The cylinder had broken above the cylinder mount. This damage was the reason for the clanking noise and the loss of engine power.
