From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On engine teardown, it was discovered that the engine oil pressure line fitting on the engine gear case was loose and allowed the escape of all the engine oil. The loss of lubrication led to and caused the total failure of the #4 piston rod bearing. This was evidenced by the distribution of the remains of the babbit bearing and steel backing of the bearing assembly. Metal remains of the bearing assembly were evident throughout the engine. The pilot elected to land in an open field. The aircraft came to a stop upside down with substantial damage.
